Art and faith are bigger than graffiti art but the lack of boundaries around both the behaviors and style of graf give it something a gallery cannot – even though galleries are now buying street art and graffiti pieces. “Art in non-art places” is a snubbing of the constraints of the well ordered polis and to my mind a metaphor of religious prophetic tradition and spirit driven spontaneity. “Modern art” as expressions, metaphors and representations of cultural observation and felt experience in life are as foreign to logical thinking as graffiti is to law enforcement and in that sense are intensely spiritual. If we take faith as being more than belief then graffiti and modern art are intensely spiritual experiences in their execution and in the moments taken to contemplate them.
