WHO ARE WE?
Sophia Think Tank is committed to discovering and applying wisdom through research, writing, and public forums, for the wellbeing of the society of which we are all a part
Humans find wisdom in a lot of places and it is our belief that the Bible sits alongside the Humanities, the Sciences, and the Arts as having something to say publicly to a world seeking answers for social wellbeing and human flourishing. Isaac Asimov is credited as saying “The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom” and it is our belief that the ancient wisdom of the Judeo-Christian Scriptures can assist in correcting that imbalance. King Solomon said “Wisdom calls out in the street and raises her voice in the public square. She cries out above the commotion. She speaks at the entrance of the City. ‘How long…?’” Wisdom (Sophia) has a public voice that needs to be heard clearly today.
Sophia Think Tank has identified various drivers of society: Media, Education, Arts, Politics, Business, Sports, Community Service Organisations, Health, Justice, and Law. We work with each of these drivers in roundtables to consider the issues they face and the application of wisdom to those issues, incorporating a values base in decision making, a character ethic in leadership, a commitment to social justice, and a relational framework through which we see all of life.
Sophia Think Tank is committed to both Qualitative and Quantitative research, writing and publishing results and opinions, and holding public forums with a view to informing, stimulating and empowering others for the personal and social wellbeing.
The Director of Sophia Think Tank is Dr David Wilson.
David has training in Theology, Psychology, and the Social Sciences. His experience covers drug and alcohol counselling and supervision, lecturing in various tertiary level institutions, academic administration, and involvement in various not for profit organizations in management and governance roles. He was an elected Councillor with the City of Melbourne (2004 – 2008) with the portfolio of Community Services and Arts and Culture, and is currently the Director of Bible Society Australia’s Sophia Think Tank. David is married to Debbie and they have four adult children and 14 grandchildren. He comes with a passion for social justice and the importance of equality and inclusiveness, and believes that both personal and social transformation are necessary expressions of God’s Message to the world.
